Im Nordosten Tansanias, am südlichen Ufer des Viktoriasees gelegen, war Mwanza im 19. Jahrhundert Ausgangspunkt für Forschungsreisende auf der Suche nach den Quellen des Nils. Heute lebt die Stadt überwiegend von der Fischproduktion. Das, was die Einwohner Mwanzas das "Blaue Gold" nennen, haben Sie vielleicht schon oft auf dem Teller gehabt: den Viktoria-Barsch. Etwa 220.000 Tonnen Fischfilets werden im Jahr produziert! Die Kontakte zwischen Würzburg und Mwanza sind vielfältig. Sie umfassen Zusammenarbeit in den Bereichen Medizin und Bildung, soziale Arbeit und fairer Handel. Trotz der vielen landschaftlichen Besonderheiten und der Nähe zu Serengeti oder Kilimanjaro ist die Gegend um Mwanza touristisch noch weitgehend unberührt.

Situated in the north east of Tanzania, on the south bank of lake Victoria, Mwanza was the starting point for explorers in search of the source of the Nile in the 19th century. Today the city lives mainly on fish production. Maybe you have already eaten what the people of Mwanza call the "Blue Gold": Victoria perch. About 220,000 tons of fish fillet are produced each year! The connections between Mwanza and Würzburg are multi-faceted. They include co-operation within the fields of medicine and education, social work and fair trade. Despite the many scenic characteristics and the vicinity to both Serengeti and Kilimanjaro, the area around Mwanza has yet been unaffected by tourism.

Située dans le nord-est de la Tanzanie et sur la rive sud du lac Victoria, Mwanza était le point de départ des explorateurs à la recherche de la source du Nil au 19e siècle. La ville vit aujourd´hui principalement de la pêche. Vous avez très certainement déjà eu dans votre assiette ce que les habitants de Mwanza nomment "l´ or bleu" : la perche du Nil. Environ 220 000 tonnes de filets sont produits chaque année ! Les relations entre Würzburg et Mwanza sont variées. Elles comprennent la coopération dans les domaines de la santé et de l´ éducation, du travail social et du commerce équitable. Malgré ses nombreux paysages pittoresques et sa proximité du Serengeti et du Kilimandjaro, la région n´ a pas encore été touchée par le tourisme.
