Around 1823 the site, situated on the shore of the Genesee - the River of the High Falls, as the Seneca Indians called the place - changed rapidly with the construction of the Erie Canal. The numerous mills, which had been built subsequently, gave Rochester the nickname Flour City, which later changed into Flower City, referring to the city’s thriving nursery industry. The trade fair and congress city Rochester is - amongst other things - the headquarters of corporations like Xerox, Eastman Kodak & Co, Bausch & Lomb, as well as the home of well known universities like the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology and the Eastman School of Music. Conditions for golfers and people who enjoy wine are excellent - golf courses and vineyards can be found in vast numbers!

Rochester, ville de congrès et de salons est, entre autres, le siège principal des sociétés Xerox, Eastman Kodak & Co et Bausch & Lomb. Elle compte également plusieurs universités de renom dont l´University of Rochester, le Rochester Institute of Technology et la Eastman School of Music.
