The Museum at the Cathedral (Museum am Dom)

In the middle of Würzburg's center, the Museum am Dom shows around 300 works of art that span an entire millennium. The works provide stimulating and realistic impulses.

The museum opened its doors in 2003 and features about 700 art pieces from the last 1000 years. The 1800 sqm exhibit contrasts contemporary art with older works.

The works are not presented and organized according to schools of thought and epochs, but instead, in an exciting contrast between old and modern art. In this way, for example, works from Tilman Riemenschneider and Johann Peter Wagner meet with works from Ernst Barlach, Käthe Kollwitz and Joseph Beuys. A special focus of the collection lies in the works from artists from eastern Germany e.g. Wolfgang Mattheuer and Werner Tübke.
