Bureau of Vital Statistics
To be eligible to order online either your name must be recorded on the certificate or you must be directly related to the person recorded on the certificate (parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren). Please explain your state of relationship in the field “comments”.
Siblings who are 16 years or older can get a birth or death certificate if they can prove a legitimate interest (e.g. for economic reasons). Others can order records of civil status of a third person only if they can prove a legal interest or provide a letter of attorney of an eligible person. A legal interest can only be acknowledged if the knowledge of civil status of a third person is necessary for prosecution of rights or defence against any claims. Please be aware that genealogical research does not justify a legal interest.
If you need a certificate for genealogical research please send us a letter or a fax to explain your interest and provide proof of entitlement.
