Fortress Marienberg and Museum für Franken (Mainfränkisches Museum)

Festung Marienberg am Main

Take a guided walking tour around Fortress Marienberg and visit its Marienkirche church and its Renaissance temple that sits above a 104 meter deep well. The Fürstengarten, which is open from April through October, offers one of the best views of the town and the Main River valley. Afterwards visit the Museum für Franken (formerly Mainfränkisches Museum) and its world-famous collection of pieces by the Medieval sculptor Tilman Riemenschneider.

Juliusspital Fürstenbau


The Prince Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn founded the charitable foundation Juliusspital in 1576. For more than 400 years, the Juliusspital has been a historical and cultural fixture. The foundation cultivates 172 hectares of vineyards and is one of the most important wine estates in all of Germany. Tour the historical buidlings and the 250 meter long cellar that houses 220 wooden wine barrels that are over 400 years old. After the walking tour, enjoy an educational wine tasting.

Old Town and UNESCO World Heritage Site Residence Palace

Hofgarten der Würzburger Residenz

A guided tour of the Old Town of Würzburg explores many wonderful sights. However, the highlight of the tour is a visit to the Residence of the prince bishops of Würzburg. Balthasar Neumann built the Residence Palace at the beginning of the 18th century. The Residence was officially declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. Most impressive are the magnificent grand staircase with the breathtaking frescos by the Venetian artist Tiepolo, the Imperial Hall and the mirror cabinet.

Option 1: Discover the Museum im Kulturspeicher

Kulturspeicher in Würzburg

The museum is a living center of art from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Exhibit space of 3500 m². It houses collections from the periods of the Romanticism, Biedermeier, Impressionism, Expressionism, as well as contemporary works. There are changing exhibits as well as the striking permanent collection “Peter C. Ruppert: Concrete Art in Europe after 1945”.

Option 2: The Museum am Dom: Dialogue between Old and Modern Art

 Würzburg: Museum am Dom

The Museum am Dom exhibits about 700 works of art spanning a millennium on 1800 m² of space. The unique concept of this museum is to put old and new art right next to each other for an exciting contrast. For example, you will see works by Tilman Riemenschneider and Johann Peter Wagner right next to creations by Ernst Barlach, Käthe Kollwitz, and Joseph Beuys.
